Display Google Reviews Professionally in Joomla

A4p Reviews Lite is a professional Google reviews extension for Joomla. It imports reviews provided by the Google Places API, stores them locally in Joomla and gives you full control over how selected customer feedback appears on your website.

Instead of requesting review content from Google every time a page is opened, the extension imports the available data into your Joomla database. Published reviews can then be delivered directly from your own website through the included Joomla module or used as Dynamic Content in YOOtheme Pro.

This local-first approach improves flexibility, reduces frontend dependencies and gives editors a structured workflow for reviewing, enriching and publishing imported customer feedback.

Privacy-Conscious Local Review Storage

Privacy and compliance are central to the architecture of A4p Reviews Lite.

Imported review content is stored in your Joomla database. Where permitted and available, profile images can be downloaded to your own Joomla media directory. Standard frontend output is therefore generated from locally stored data and does not require a live Google Places API request whenever a visitor opens the page.

A4p Reviews Lite is designed to support privacy-conscious website integration. However, legal requirements depend on the website, jurisdiction, Google’s applicable terms and the operator’s individual configuration. The extension does not replace professional legal advice and should not be presented as an automatic guarantee of GDPR or regulatory compliance.

Google attribution, source-linking and content-use requirements must also be observed when displaying Google review content.

One Extension – Two Ways to Display Your Reviews

A4p Reviews Lite gives you two independent presentation options.

Joomla Module

The included Joomla module provides a ready-to-use solution for conventional Joomla websites. Reviews can be displayed without YOOtheme Pro and configured directly through Joomla’s module manager.

Available module settings include:

• Number of reviews from 1 to 50
• Minimum rating from 0 to 5 stars
• Manual, newest, oldest, highest-rated or lowest-rated ordering
• Cards, grid, list and compact layouts
• One to four columns for cards and grids
• Configurable review-text length
• Optional profile images

This makes the module suitable for testimonials, landing pages, service pages, company profiles and dedicated review sections.

Dynamic Content for YOOtheme Pro

For projects built with YOOtheme Pro, published reviews are available as a native Dynamic Content source.

You can create custom review layouts with familiar YOOtheme Pro elements and map individual review fields without being restricted to a predefined design.

A collection of published reviews can be loaded with a configurable quantity. A specific published review can also be selected by its Joomla review ID.

Import Reviews Through the Google Places API

A4p Reviews Lite connects to Google’s Places API (New) using your own Google Cloud credentials.

After entering the API key and Place ID, reviews supplied by Google can be imported into Joomla manually. Automatic synchronization can optionally be configured through Joomla’s Scheduled Tasks.

The import process retrieves the business rating, total Google rating count and the reviews included in Google’s API response. Imported reviews are identified and updated without creating unnecessary duplicate entries.

Google controls which reviews are returned. The Places API currently supplies a maximum of five reviews per place and sorts this selection according to Google’s relevance criteria. The extension cannot request or reconstruct reviews that Google does not return.

Store and Manage Reviews Locally

After import, each review becomes a manageable Joomla record.

Editors can:

Imported reviews that no longer appear in a later Google API response are not automatically deleted. This protects existing editorial work and prevents content from disappearing unexpectedly.

Protect Your Editorial Changes

Imported content often needs to be prepared for a specific website presentation. A4p Reviews Lite therefore includes tools for protecting local editorial changes.

Local changes can be protected globally, while individual reviews can also be locked against synchronization updates. This allows editors to enrich imported records with company details, positions, website addresses, notes or carefully prepared presentation text without losing their work during the next synchronization.

Manual and Automatic Synchronization

Reviews can be synchronized manually from the component whenever required.

For automated workflows, the included task plugin integrates with Joomla’s Scheduled Tasks. Once configured, Joomla can initiate review synchronization according to a schedule selected by the website administrator.

New reviews can be imported automatically, existing records can be updated and protected records remain under editorial control.

The actual execution frequency depends on the Joomla Scheduler configuration and the hosting environment.

Locally Stored Profile Images

Where supported, profile images can be downloaded from approved Google image hosts and stored inside Joomla.

The downloader uses HTTPS-only requests, validates supported image types and applies a maximum file-size limit. If no suitable image is available, the frontend can use an author-initial fallback instead.

Local image storage reduces third-party image requests during normal page delivery and keeps the visual presentation under the control of the website operator.

Built for Joomla Administration

A4p Reviews Lite integrates into Joomla’s administration interface and follows the established Joomla workflow.
